ABOUT US

THE FESTIVAL

M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival seeks to fill a gap in the current landscape by providing a platform for young people in Singapore who are between the ages 13-25 to stage productions at professional theatre venues under the guidance of professional theatre practitioners for audiences young and old.

These creative collaborations enable the youth to learn how to work with others, to better appreciate the complexities of the social issues that inform their plays and to express their unique perspectives to a wider audience through honing their craft in drama and theatre-making.

We aspire to develop this annual festival over the next few years into the flagship event for youth theatre in Singapore, with plans to commission original work by youth and involving young people from various arts-based and community-based organisations.

VALUE PROPOSITION

Social Value

Dealing with themes that encompass relevant social challenges, youths, as well as adults may gain a deeper understanding of and empathize with the complexities of these issues

Educational Value

Raise the level of artistry in theatre-making and storytelling among youths by providing training and guidance on the various aspects of production (eg. conceptualising, scripting, directing, stage-managing, lighting and sound design etc)

Engagement Value

Allow youths not just theatre exposure but theatre experience as they participate in the artistic process. Because the festival is not a competition, participants may adopt a more collaborative approach to learning and develop skills useful for navigating differences

Vocational Value

Youths get exposure to the arts industry as a viable career option through the mentorship provided by professional arts practitioners
