International Friendship Day is an interactive drama programme which incorporates performance, engagement, forum and discussion. The piece touches on integration issues between Singaporean and non-Singaporean students and was originally commissioned in 2015 by the Singapore Kindness Movement. Each participant will receive an accompanying resource kit.

COLLECTIVE CREATIONS
A Devising Drama Workshop for Youths
Facilitated by: Ahmad Musta'ain B Khamis and Rosemary McGowan
Timing: Sat 23 July, 9am – 5pm
Venue: Esplanade Rehearsal Studio
A full-day devising workshop for youths, focusing on empowering them with the skills, and confidence to create original plays about issues that are important to them. The workshop will work with the festival theme of ‘Home’.
Limited to 25 participants, aged 13-25 years old.
Interested applicants should have previously participated or performed in a play.
There will be a selection process and we will inform you if your registration is successful.
About The Facilitators
Ahmad Musta'ain B Khamis
Ahmad teaches English Language and English Drama. In 2010, he won the Open Category of the 24 Hour Playwriting Competition with his play, Serunding. The play has since gone on four tours around Singapore and was recently staged in KL in a Singapore-Malaysia Arts Exchange Festival. Other than writing and devising plays, Ahmad has also led workshops, facilitated talks and conceptualized and directed applied theatre projects for the Singapore Drama Educators Association.
Rosemary McGowan
Rosie has been creating theatre with students for over 10 years, using theatre as a tool for expression and dialogue. She is the co-director of Theatre:Connect, an international, cross-cultural youth theatre that creates relevant and issue-based work with, by and for young people. She has taught drama at numerous schools and has run projects both in Singapore and in London. Rosie is currently a full-time addiction counsellor and a freelance theatre practitioner, facilitator and educator.

A dialogue that engages with questions about why and how young people make theatre – their interests, approaches, challenges, and aspirations. In this session, we focus on why devising is essential as part of the repertoire of a theatre experience and how we can support our young people in their creative desires to express and shape what matters to them, their communities, and society.
