M1 is pleased to present the M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival 2016!

As a passionate supporter of the arts, we are extremely excited to be part of this vibrant youth theatre festival. Presented by ArtsWok Collaborative, under the artistic directorship of Cultural Medallion Recipient Alvin Tan, the M1 Peer Pleasure Youth Theatre Festival provides a much-needed platform for youths to stage, perform and be involved in professional theatrical productions, while being mentored by accomplished theatre practitioners.

Regardless of whether the young participants come from a school’s drama club, or a youth theatre company, the festival collaborations let them engage with their peers and with issues that concern them, culminating in creative, authentic and open exchanges through drama and dialogue. This will in turn help nurture the growth of young theatre talents and their contribution to the Singapore arts scene.

To be presented across one week, this year’s festival touches on the theme of ‘Home’, and features six original plays, largely devised, directed and performed by youths from various groups. How will our youths perceive ‘Home’? What alternative views do they hold? What issues do they care about and what values do they embrace? We are all eager to find out and expect to be surprised.

Come join us in discovering and celebrating youth theatre, and marvel at how the exuberance of youth can sometimes be a refreshing counterpoint to the weight of experience.
